The origins of the Kathmandu strain remain shrouded in limited historical documentation. While it is known to have been collected in the vicinity of Nepal's capital city, Kathmandu, the identity of the individual responsible for the initial sampling remains unclear.
Speculation surrounds the possibility that the renowned entomologist John Allen may have collected the Kathmandu strain during his explorations in pursuit of new specimens. However, this claim lacks substantiating evidence, and Allen, in his reports, only references the Chitwan Napalese strain from Nepal.
